Organise Favourites in IE7
Basically a less squashed version of the feature in IE6. A definite improvement but I think more could be done.
Bugs
- The window is resizeable and has a control box, which is good, but:
- There is no sizing grip.
- There are no Minimise or Maximise/Restore buttons.
- The panel of details for the selected folder:
- Has no label.
- Cannot receive focus, which prevents copying information from it.
- The Links heading has no colon after it but the Modified heading does.
- The panel of details for the selected item:
- Inconsistent presentation compared to a selected folder:
- Headings are not made bold.
- Multiple details per line, namely Times Visited and Last Visited.
- Inconsistent presentation compared to a selected folder:
- Wrong font face or size used for command buttons? They don’t look quite right, somehow.
- Focus is initially on the New Folder button. It should be in the first control; the treeview.
- Background colours do not meet the treeview edges, even though they are interactive.
- Hover effect in treeview makes item text unreadable.
- Buttons for manipulating the selected item are a long way from that control.
Ideas
- Give the Treeview columns, like a heirarchical Listview (Heirarchical Flexgrid):
- Name, same as current.
- Last Visited:
- For items, the date of that item.
- For folders, the most recent date of the items in that folder.
- Clicking an item:
- Left-clicking selects it.
- Double-clicking opens it in the current tab in the current browser window.
- Middle-clicking opens it in a new tab in the current browser window.
- Right-clicking displays a context menu for it.
- Context menu:
- Although these are real folders and files on the hard drive, having loads of file manipulation items from Windows Explorer makes things seem more complicated than need be. Common tasks only need to treat them as items in your Favourites.
- Use the context menus from the Favourites Centre.
- Make this a modeless window.
- Show it in the taskbar.
- Add buttons for Minimise and Maximise/Restore, reflecting these in the control box menu.
- Add a sizing grip.
